The Wallet Envelope - Idea of the Month

One of the BIGGEST MISTAKES that people make when attempting to market their businesses is 'assuming' that their prospects will open and read their marketing message.  In fact, many a good offer has failed because the message was never looked at by the recipient.

This month, we're sharing with you a very successful format that has consistently worked well to cut through all of the 'clutter' in the mail box in order to get NOTICED!!  It is an envelope that has been cleverly designed to look like a wallet, complete when opened with the appearance of credit cards printed inside.

Below you will see a copy of the envelope when it is folded, addressed, and stamped:

As you can see above, it is not only hard NOT to open this up when you receive it in your daily big pile of mail, but it's hard to NOT open it right away.  After all, what's the first thing that comes to your mind when you receive a wallet in the mail?

Someone's sending you money!!!

Your curiosity has to get the best of you and you've gotta open it up to find out what this is all about.

Here are some tips for the outside of the envelope:

  • Place a mailing label with real handwriting or a really good handwritten font
  • Always use a first class live stamp and if you want even better results, place the stamp on crooked, or upside down, and try to get commemorative stamps from the Post Office (or have your mailing house do it for you)
  • Always tab it shut

When you open it up, you'll see that on one side it looks like credit cards are there (very clever) and on the other side there is a place to print your own personal message.

Plus ... and this is IMPORTANT: make sure the insert protrudes out a little at the top and it look like there is money inside.  Once again, this creates HUGE curiosity.

Of course, a sales message goes on the insert.  In this example, it is a simple 3 1/2 x 8 1/2" example used by a dental office to acquire New patients.

Notice a couple of important elements on the above front and back of the insert above:

  • This is an OFFER
  • There is a DEADLINE
  • There is a clear "call-to-action"  (CALL US TODAY)
  • There is pertinent information including a phone number, street address, website address
  • There is an UPSELL (bring a 2nd family member at the same price ... smart!)
  • The BACK of the insert is used.  (Most people would use just the front wasting that valuable space)

There are Lots of Different Ways to Use the Wallet Envelope

Besides using this as a New Member acquisition strategy such as the example above, let us show you a couple of other uses.

To Existing Customers:

Below is an insert used by a Menswear store to bring back existing customers.  Notice that the part that protrudes out when the Wallet Envelope is opened looks a $100 bill.  The actual size of the insert was 8 1/2 x 14" that was quarter folded to fit inside the envelope and had multiple offers on it.  Finally the back of the insert was filled with customer testimonials (not wasting that valuable real estate)

NOTE:  You can actually insert as many as four pages comfortable inside the Wallet Envelopes.

For Seminar Attendees:

You can insert a Wallet Envelope inside every attendee's bag with an offer to use towards some of your resources:

As A Handout:

Since they grab your attention, this is a very smart thing to hand out to people when exhibiting in Trade Shows or at busy intersections on the street, in the case of the Menswear company.  Below is an insert used by the Menswear company to hand out throughout busy Baltimore intersections during the Christmas shopping season:

As we've stated many times, it doesn't matter what your business is.  This marketing campaign works!
